So perhaps this is a car that you can fix it up while you’re using it. The 260 benefits from a dual exhaust system and the tires are fairly new. The good news is the Falcon is said to be complete, so you’re not likely to have to be searching online for any major replacement parts. We’re not told if the car runs, but the motor looks all there, and it’s paired with an automatic transmission. Other than a big tear in the front seat, the interior may be okay except that there is also no headliner. Both bumpers need re-chroming, especially the rear one. The white paint is a re-do and the seller thinks it needs attention, but it looks good enough to drive for now. The body looks good with no visible rust (and none is mentioned). We’re told this auto, which originated in Texas, has 45,000 miles and – while it certainly could have turned over – the condition of the car suggests it may be accurate. The nicely trimmed Futura 2-door sedan would see upwards of 17,000 units, including the seller’s car. It would continue to sell well at more than 300,000 copies across all body styles. This Ford is waiting for its next owner in Pinckney, Michigan, and is available here on eBay where the bidding is at just $3,150.įord’s Falcon got its first major restyle in 1964, taking on more of a squarish look in the process. It’s a survivor-quality car that may turn out to be a great weekender for the local car shows. This 1964 Falcon is the more upscale Futura model, and it has a 260 V8, which means decent acceleration in a fairly light car. Its platform would launch at least two other popular Ford products, the Mustang and the Maverick. Ford launched the Falcon in 1960 and it would see success throughout the entire decade. Presenting nicely and operating well, this Sprint convertible is an excellent opportunity to immediately enjoy top-down V8 cruising at its finest. The 1960s became the age of the compact car, at least from Detroit’s perspective. The original chrome remains as well as most of the interior. In 2003 the engine and exterior were completely restored, the exterior having been repainted in the original two-tone colors. Originally built in the Loraine, Ohio plant, this car is offered directly from an over 20 year family ownership and is presented in semi-restored condition. The Sprint convertible offered here is just that, a very limited and special trophy of the 1960s styling contest. Featuring the desirable V8 engine, it was produced in very limited quantities - likely only 626 V8 convertibles rolling off the assembly line. At the pinnacle of the series was the Falcon Futura Sprint convertible. Essentially the Falcon line projected what came to be known as "total performance" in the updated styling. Consequently, this fueled demand, and Ford in 1964 had a total annual production of 1,787,535 cars under the leadership of Lee Iacocca.Ī small but important subset of this massive production was the Ford Falcon series which was comprised of the Falcon, Falcon Futura, and Falcon Futura Sprint models. These refinements provided manufacturers with a new look while maintaining mechanical characteristics from previous years. Of the notable design improvements, or refinements as the manufacturer would say, were front grills, arm rests, chrome detail, moldings, dual sun visors and the like. The competitive nature of automotive design and sales in the 1960s led Ford in 1964, to revamp the style of its product line.
